Addicted?

It's true. I think I have an addiction....Online yard sales! These county facebook yard sale pages are awesome! I bought Eddie a scooter that looks almost identical to the one we had when we were kids, and my nephew Owen uses now, except this one has plastic handlebars, for $5!  And then I found a barn with all the animals (you know, the one that moos when you open the door...we had one of those when we were little too!) for $5 too!  Who would have ever thought you would be able to sit in your air conditioned house on a rainy Sunday afternoon and yard sale. Technology, I'm tellin' ya....

It's 5:30 Am and I should be sleeping. Clarence had to get up at 5, the alarm about made us both  hit the roof, I couldn't believe it was already time to get up! Eddie didn't wake up all night! He went to bed around 8 last night, and has been snoozing ever since...Heaven on earth. This is the second time he's done this. Saturday I only got up twice with him, so I'm not complaining about that either!

We are going to get books today, I'm so excited!!  Classes begin in one week, hard to believe!

Weekend Adventures

Yesterday Clarence and I went to a yard sale to check out some couches. We have been needing a new couch for some time now, we really need two, but one in particular was awful to look at and sit on!  We got to the yard sale around 8:30, and boy am I glad we did! There were two couches, though one was lime green with bright flowers on it and seated 6 people, so that was out of the question. The other was brown, and looked brand new! So I asked the lady how much it was and she said $30, I about fell over! There was no way we could pass that up, so it came home with us. :)

I love it! It sits very comfortably, and looks good to boot.  I couldn't believe it was only $30, what a deal!   Shortly after I got the house in order, some of our neighbors came by and brought me a bouquet of flowers, which I also loved! :)

Well, Eddie isn't sounding too happy as I sit here and ignore his kicks in my side, I think it's time for a snack. Once my bread rises and bakes, we have 3 loads of  laundry to take to the laundromat.  Happy Sunday!

                                                                        Too cute!

I love it when he wakes up from naps this happy!

Meadows of Dan Elementary

It was a sad day in Meadows of Dan yesterday. Our elementary school caught on fire and was unable to be saved, even though there were many people trying to do so. We all hope it can be rebuilt and some of the old school can be salvaged...I didn't go to this school, but my husband did, and our son would have been the fourth generation to attend there.  I have a few pictures that are pretty blurry, but I posted them anyway.

Long day

It has been a VERY long day! The morning was great, and most of the afternoon, until the car broke down....Again! Eddie didn't sleep well again last night, so he slept with me, so as usual we got up at 5, the early bird. So we got ready and after his first nap of the day and breakfast, we went to the park and met Ashlee and company. :) It was the perfect day for it, too.  Then after lunch, and another nap, I went to the hospital to see a friend who just had her baby (he's adorable!). All was fine, until I started home and car over-heated. :( I could have cried. Here I was, in what felt like 90 degree weather, stuck 45 miles from home and one battery bar on my cell.  But to make a long story short, after 2 hours of it cooling off, we were good to go and made it home with no problems.

Poor Clarence had a rough day. After I called to tell him the car was broke down again, he had two tires blow out on the concrete truck. One on the way with a load, and one on the way back.  Poor thing didn't get home until 9:30 tonight, and is beyond tired.

On a good note, Eddie has been sleeping good so far tonight (knock on wood, please find some, if it's imitation that is fine too!), and his diapers haven't been leaking (woohoo!), minus the one at the park that somehow completely missed his diaper and went all of his pants...We'll blame that on mommy, though I'm still not exactly sure how it happened, possibly magic?  This is the baby who has wet his entire back before, and have front and diaper completely dry, go figure.

The kitchen is clean and most of the house is in order. In order enough for me to go to bed and not dread getting up in the morning to a messy house.  Night night! :)

Leaky Diapers...*sigh*

I'm having a hard time finding diapers that won't leak with Eddie.  Every time he has a dirty diaper they leak! The poor boy goes through several changes of clothes because of it, and on occasion I have to change his sheets in the middle of the night, as I did last night. The main problem with this is I still don't have a drier, so it's not so easy to just wash his sheets and such as soon as it happens...I'm limited to crib sheets, guess I need to get another pack!  I don't know if it's the brand or what. I don't remember having this problem with the Huggies, but I haven't used any in awhile, none at all since he's been in a size 4. The Dollar General brand size 4 leaks from every angle.  Twice last night he wet the bed and his pj's because of it.  I don't think he's already outgrown the size 4, though I guess it could be possible. The DG brand looks a little too small, but the Parent's Choice did fine (other than really dirty ones). I have a few of the PC brand left in my diaper bag, I think I'll use those for night time, at least I won't have to change the sheets in the middle of the night!  I'm going to have to run to town tomorrow to get a few things, so I'm going to pick up a small pack of Huggies and see if they help anyway...Here's for hoping!

Snake!

I don't like them!!  We had a very large rattle snake in the road coming toward our house last night, scary!  A few neighbors stopped in the road after one ran over it, but it didn't seem to phase it much...And yes, we killed it.  Even though Clarence got fussed at for it, we can't have rattle snakes hanging around the house!  It was run over twice and still leaped into the grass, so he shot it 4 times and that got it. One would think it wouldn't take that much for a snake, but it did!  I dreamed last night I was bit by one....

Eddie wasn't feeling very well last night, he ran a low-grade fever for a few hours and had some little bumps on his face for a little bit, they went away and the fever was gone by bedtime.  I get so worried when he runs a temperature, I need to train myself not to, it wasn't that high.  He didn't sleep well last night, though. He acted like his stomach was hurting, poor guy. :( Needless to say, I spent my night on the couch cuddling him, but I didn't mind. :) He seems perfectly fine this morning, playing and smiling as usual, must have been something one of us ate.

I have a ton of laundry to do! Clarence is going to try to be home on time today (assuming he doesn't have to work over any) so I can go to the laundromat. The only problem is, I have at least 3 loads of clothes to do and only enough detergent to do one load! I think I have a few bottles that have a tiny bit in them, maybe I can slosh some water in them to get it out.

The bread I made yesterday is almost gone. That's what happens when I make it, Clarence loves it!! I'm almost out of milk, too, but I think I have enough to make another load today...I might just have to hide this one. ;)

Clarence is hoping to get my van fixed this week, hopefully he can. I don't really have anywhere to go, but I don't like being here without any transportation, just in case something happens! I do need to go to the grocery store and pick up a few things.

Yummy Homemade Loaf Bread!

Early mornings = being productive!

Some days anyway! Eddie woke up at 6 this morning, and after 15 minutes of being awake he started fussing, so I nursed him and put him back to bed! He slept until about 7:30, so I took the opportunity to clean some while he was napping.  I managed to clean the kitchen (yes, I was bad and went to bed last night without doing supper dishes), clean the bathroom, put away clothes I did yesterday and pick up the living room.  I'm not a big fan of early mornings, but in a way it makes me be more productive throughout the day...Sometimes, other times I'm productive for an hour and then don't want to do anything the rest of the day!  However, I had a weekend of laziness, so today I will get something done.  The sad thing is, the day I have the motivation to do something, I don't have much to do!  I don't have a vehicle, so I can't do any laundry (drier is still broken), no tomatoes so I can't can, and I've done most of the housework!

Eddie and I just finished breakfast, so I think we are going to go for a walk before it gets hot.

Experimental cooking

I was at a loss as to what to fix for dinner tonight, so I decided I would experiment a little.
I had some vegetables in the fridge that really needed to be eaten, so I thought I would use as many as possible. I love veggies, Clarence however is more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but I still fix them with every meal.   I cut up some squash and drizzled a little oil on it (about half a pizza pan), then I filled the other half with quartered green peppers that were filled with a cream cheese and homemade chunky ketchup mixture. I put them in the oven on 415 degrees until the peppers started to sizzle. Then I fixed stuffed mushrooms, with cream cheese, bread crumbs and basil.   Since Clarence is a meat man, I had to have some kind of meat but didn't have anything thawed out, so we had plain hot dogs with it. Weird, but it worked! I added a salad to mine too.

Anyway, I thought I would share my experiment!  Nothing too exciting, but interesting none the less. Now that Eddie is in bed, I should go clean the kitchen....

Trip to Fort Chiswell Animal park

 That llama really liked Clarence....
This was a very talkative bird! He kept saying "hey", but we couldn't get him to say anything else.

He was my favorite!! He looks so funny sitting like that. They gave us some peanuts and said you could throw them to him. He would catch the peanut, and then throw back at you really hard, lol! I loved it!
These ostriches were kind of mean...We took a bus ride through the field to see some more (I don't have all the pictures), and the ostriches would come up and stick their heads in the bus and try to peck you. :P
This was a rare African bird, I don't remember the name. There were two in the pen, a male and female, the male was VERY protective of her so you had to keep your distance from their pen.
The deer were so sweet, they eat right out of your hand! I pet a few of them, some were more friendly then others.
He was one more ugly booger, lol. He was sweet though, he just wanted some lovin'. I had a great birthday with my boys at the park!
This was taken a month or so ago...I love when he sleeps like that!!!

Canning and sorts

It's been too long since I last posted, though there never is that much news to share.

I've been doing a lot of canning these past few weeks. I know have 3 pints of blueberry jam, 5 pints of blueberry peach jam, 4 pints peach butter/jam (it didn't turn out like it was suppose to!), 4 pints peach butter, 4 quarts of peaches and 15 quarts of chunky ketchup. Oh, and 5 pints of pepper jelly which I did last night. I have enough peppers to do another batch of pepper jelly, but I want to make sure this taste ok first! It's the first time I've ever made it, and it doesn't look anything like my mother-in-laws, so we will see!  I wanted to get as much canning done as possible before school starts, and I have succeeded. I still want to do another box of ketchup (that 15 quarts came from one box of romas!), but that will be week after next I think. There is still applesauce too, but I won't be able to get that done before school.

Clarence has been battling an eye infection all week. It started out Monday around lunch, he felt like something was in it and he couldn't see out of it very well (mainly because it hurt to open it or let sunlight in), so he came home from work early. As the day progressed it didn't get any better, so we went to his eye doctor the next day and he said he had a bacterial infection in his eye. He gave him some eye drops to put in it and told him to come back the next day for him to check it, so we did. It wasn't as improved as the doctor would have liked, but he said it had improved some so to come back Friday. Clarence asked if he could just call and tell him how it was so we didn't have to make another trip to Hillsville, and he said yes, but come Friday morning he woke up and it was so blurry he couldn't see out of it! So we went back up there. He said he could see white blood cells in his cornia (not sure how to spell that!), and he was going to send him to a specialist in Roanoke. So, we got in the car to head to Roanoke, he got us an appointment for 1:00 that afternoon, and the car wouldn't crank...It's always something!  We ended up having to get his parents to bring the truck to Hillsville and leaving the car at the bank. We got there on time though, and the doctor said he thought it was just irritated and there was nothing wrong with his eye. He gave him some more medicated drops and told him to come back the next day so he could check it, so we went back yesterday and he said it was looking better just to keep putting the drops in it. He can see out of it this morning, so that's good news. :)

Eddie is growing like a little weed! If I can figure out how, I will post some pictures of him. He has recently discovered he can make a high pitch (happy) squeal, so he likes to do that all the time now! He is such an early bird, in a way I wish he would sleep later, but in another way it's good because it gets me up and going early and I seem to be more productive throughout the day. He has been waking up at 5:45 every morning.

While we were in Roanoke yesterday we went to hhgregg and bought a laptop. I had decided not to get one, I would just fix the wireless on the one I have, but then I found out that I had to have Word 2010 for one of my classes. After some research, I was going to have to buy the windows upgrade to get Word 2010, and that was going to be several hundred dollars by the time I got all the programs I needed. So we thought it made more sense to buy the computer...It's a Toshiba, really nice, and was on sale for $499, so it was a good deal. I have financial aide money to pay for it, which was a bonus too! Had it not been for that I would have had to figure something else out....

I can't wait for school to start!! I know I've said that a lot. :) I'm super excited about it! Ashlee and I go to campus on the 18th for Student Day and to buy our books. Other than books, I think I have everything I need.

Well, I think I have rambled on enough, time for breakfast!
